Creekwood UMC Purpose and Three General Rules

Creekwood UMC invites you to discover the joy of belonging to a community of believers, growing in your knowledge and experience God's love, and serving the people in the name of Jesus Christ. To live out this purpose, we are called to a live a Christian life through two commandments: love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. John Wesley taught of three general rules to help Christians pursue these two commandments. As leaders, we pursue these expectations as we grow in faith and service together.

A.      Strive to avoid those things which are inconsistent with the life of faith, separate us from God, or bring harm to others, such as:

1.       Self-destructive behavior

2.       Moral compromise

3.       Self-centeredness

4.       Malice

5.       Wasting of resources

B.        Work to do good of every possible sort and practice our faith, such as:

1.       Live a life of love

2.       Share our faith inside and outside of Creekwood

3.       Care for our families

4.       Build up others

5.       Be engaged with those in need, inside and outside of Creekwood

C.       Pursue growth in our spiritual lives, such as:

1.       "Worship Plus Two"

a.        Attend worship regularly

b.       Participate in a small group

c.        Serve God with our time and talents

2.       Give in proportion to our income, with the tithe being the goal

3.       Spend time in prayer and personal study of the scripture

What is Church Council?

Ever wondered what happens at Church Council? Well wonder no longer. Creekwood's Church Council is made up chairs from the various committees within our church, our pastoral staff, and certain Creekwood staff members. Church Council typically meets four to five times per year depending on the activity taking place at Creekwood. The purpose of the meetings is to review, provide input, and at times approve activity taking place within the church. It is also a wonderful time to provide vision and direction moving forward since there is such a broad range of committees that are part of Church Council.  Some examples of agenda items are provide updates on the church budget, reviewing and providing input to the churches strategic plans, brainstorming opportunities with the opening of our new Worship Center, and reviewing the church calendar.
